Why do you need a gun belt? It's fairly simple. A gun belt is built to carry a gun better than a normal belt is able to. A person should use the right tool for the job, and the tool for carrying a gun and a holster is a gun belt. 

Regular belts, when tasked with supporting a gun and holster, will quickly "break" and begin to dip where the gun is worn. This is called "gun sag" and it's a harbinger of bad things to come.
